Movember is the month for men to grow their moustaches in support of prostate cancer research. However there are also many other ways that we can raise awareness for prostate cancer support prostate cancer research.
Each year over 32,000 men die of prostate cancer and it is the most common cancer in men. The Prostate Cancer Awareness Project (PCAP) is trying to encourage prevention by getting men to use Prostate Tracker, a free online service that lets you track your PSA test results. It is more focused on prevention and early detection as opposed to raising money for research.
“The PSA [prostate-specific antigen] test is a blood test that measures the amount of PSA in the blood. PSA is produced by the prostate and is normally present in a man’s blood in small amounts. An elevated PSA level may be an indication that cancer is present. ” -Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, Ontario
Currently PCAP is trying to raise awareness through their t-shirt design contest. First prize is a $100 gift card to a business of your choice! Details can be found here on our Facebook event page.
As a social media and marketing intern for PCAP, I would like to take this opportunity to shamelessly promote our contest! So please tell all your friends and budding t-shirt designers about Prostate Tracker and our contest! Check out the PCAP website for more ways to get involved and like us on Facebook for more prostate cancer related news.
