Basho Cafe is a new Japanese style cafe on E. Hastings and I checked it out with my co workers on a particularly slowww work day. Yeah I seem to have a lot of those… Seating is pretty limited inside but it looks quaint and inviting.
Fairly simple menu with a few lunch set items. We came for their afternoon set which is available after 2pm. It includes a matcha latte and 3 minis sweets that you don’t get to choose. All their sweets are pretty small and cost about a $1-2.
The afternoon set was served on a small tray with small quilted place mats. Since it was a warm day, I got the matcha latte iced. there was adequate matcha flavour and it wasn’t too sweet. The sweets were a milk mochi cupcake with red bean, a sesame cookie and a matcha white chocolate cookie. The mochi cupcake was really chewy just like mochi! I didn’t even mind the red bean in it since there were only a few small pieces. The sesame cookie had lots of sesame flavour and it was like a buttery cookie. My fave was the matcha white chocolate cookie since it was the sweetest and biggest piece! haha It was the chewy kind of cookie and it satisfied my sweet tooth.
My other co worker got the Matcha Coconut Chocolate Chip cookie. This was $1.75 and it was a decent size. It tasted a lot like my matcha white chocolate cookie except with coconut which gave it some more texture. I wanted to try all the other matcha goodies but that was enough pigging out for one day!
I was not disappointed with my visit and I’d come back but it’s so far away!
