While searching up new lunch places to visit, I came across the Fish Counter located on Main and 23rd. When we arrived around 1pm, the place was bustling with people getting take out or eating in the limited store space. Seating is extremely limited so be prepared to get take out. While waiting for my food I also noticed they sell their own home made sauces. In addition to prepared food such as salads and crab cakes, they also sell…well you guessed it! Fish.
They also have sturgeon! Not sure what that would taste like though. I debated between getting a sandwich or fish and chips since they both sounded good. The portions for the fish and chips looked really big too and I saw the fries were made from real potatoes.
My friend had the Oyster Po’Boy served with a large side of coleslaw. On the menu it said it was served with spicy cabbage and it turned out to be kimchi. The sandwich was put in a brown take out box but she said the bread got soggy from the coleslaw so maybe they should have a separate container for it. The coleslaw tasted fresh and crunchy and was dressed with a light vinaigrette.
I opted for the Salmonito which was a salmon burrito but I didn’t figure this out until after I received the food haha This cost $8.90 and if you want it with fries it will be $10.
The warm soft tortilla was filled with moist and flaky wild salmon!!! It was perfectly cooked and a lot tastier than I expected and very juicy too. Inside there was also fennel, onion, cilantro and chipotle mayo which gave the otherwise soft wrap some crunchy texture in every bite. I was so full after eating it! The amount of salmon inside was generous too. Glad I didn’t get the fries too or I wouldn’t be able to finish it.
Gotta try their fish and chips next time!
