My family decided to go on a spontaneous weekend dinner but we didn’t make any reservations so a lot of places were full by the time we arrived at 7pm aka the usual dinner time. We decided to go to Union Square and there we found 3 restaurants in a row. Tasty Kitchen, something else and Top Chiu Chow Cuisine. Tasty Kitchen was packed with a super long line up while the second one was not even half full and Top Chiu Chow was just filled up so we would have to wait a bit. We decided the second one was sketchy if no one was going and Tasty Kitchen was too busy so Top Chiu Chow it was!
For our first dish, we had the Fried Shrimp and Crab Balls. These were served with a side of sweet honey-like sauce for dipping. They were tasty because they were fried but otherwise nothing special.
Next we had the Marinated Duck with Tofu. I think the meat could’ve been marinated a bit more but then someone might complain that it is too salty. Otherwise I still thought it was pretty good and also I haven’t had it in a long time! The tofu was also good from soaking in the sauce at the bottom.
To maintain a balanced diet, we ordered some Veggies with Satay Beef Sauce. This was an enjoyable dish since the sauce made the veggies tasty and there was lots of beef too. There might’ve been a bit too much sauce though and the Satay flavour could’ve been stronger.
Lastly we had the Spareribs in a Honey Garlic Sauce. This was pricey since the portion was smaller than all the other dishes (except the shrimp and crab balls) but it cost about the same. Also there was mostly bones here and ok they are spareribs but I was expecting something more. However, I am always a sucker for the honey garlic sauce so I still like it but value wise it was not worth it. Or I can get something similar and better and cheaper elsewhere.
For our dessert, we were served watermelon which I thought was a nice touch.
