I’ve been to Dinesty quite a few times now but I thought it was time for a revisit post!
We started off with some Hot and Sour Soup which is not what I would order at a Shanghainese restaurant but my friend wanted some so we ordered a small size which just managed to give the three of us a small bowl each. It was actually more “hot” than most hot and sour soup variations that I’ve had which was good. We could also see some chili pieces in it. It also had a nice assortment of ingredients in it.
This was the Cold Wine Chicken. This dish is actually quite small despite my picture. There was a distinctive wine flavour and the chicken was tender and refreshingly cold but not straight out of the fridge cold.
We also ordered some Pork Potstickers which came with six pieces. I loved the crispy dumpling skin!
Of course we can’t forget about the XLB’s (xiao long baos)! It came with eight pieces but they’re on the small side here. Also, one of the pieces had leaked the soup out already =( I’m not a snob when it comes to XLB’s but I thought these were pretty good with thin enough skin and enough soup inside!
We also ordered some Dan Dan Noodles. Ok I don’t think this version was very memorable to me. It wasn’t bad I just can’t remember what it tasted like… maybe it could’ve had a stronger peanut flavour. Despite all the red colored soup, it wasn’t very spicy.
Finally we had the Pork with Hoi Sin Sauce and Pancakes. I really like the idea of wrapping stuff in pancakes! I would wrap all my food in pancakes if I could. This pancake or crepe was fairly large and chewy in a good way. I liked it better than the kind you usually get for Peking duck and it was on the thicker side. The pork was doused in a good amount of sauce without being overly salty. Despite the fact that it said it was “hoi sin” sauce on the bill, it didn’t really taste like it to me. Or I couldn’t tell.
The dishes here are actually quite small but it reflects the price since I think these are more like snacks and side dishes that we ordered. Also, don’t be fooled by the close up pictures on the menu like me. The pictures look a lot bigger! Also, make sure you make reservations since they are always busy!
