We were looking for a Japanese restaurant for our Friday lunch and we settled on Aki Japanese Restaurant in Coal Harbour because they had good reviews on Urbanspoon (or Zomato now). Their lunch hours are 11:30am-2pm and last call is at 1:30pm. Their dark red booth seats are certainly eye catching and the restaurant looks pretty nice inside.
We shared an Appetizer Salmon Sashimi. I thought the slices were on a lot smaller than I expected and it was also expensive at $11.95 for 5 pieces and I expected more pieces when I ordered but it didn’t say how many pieces were included on the menu. It wasn’t even wild salmon just regular salmon.
This was Lunch Box A which comes with beef short ribs, sunomono, chicken kaarage, 2 pcs salmon sashimi and 2pcs tuna sashimi as well as rice and miso soup (not pictured here). Didn’t try this!
I had the Oyako Don which also came with some miso soup. I liked their version here! It had a good mix of egg, onions and tender chicken and there was a good ratio of rice to ingredients. I also liked the miso soup here too! Not salty and strong miso flavour.
The portions seem to be on the smaller side but food was good. The price probably reflects the neighbourhood.
