The Steel Toad is one of the newer breweries to join the Olympic Village area. Unfortunately, I don’t drink so I can’t comment on their beer. I’m only here for the food!
Classy looking leather menu!
This was the Lamb Burger with harissa aioli and served with a side of fries. I didn’t try this but I heard it wasn’t gamey. I tried the fries which were alright, on the softer side, could’ve been seasoned more.
Half Rack of Ribs with a corn salad, half an egg and mashed potatoes. According to my friend, the ribs were tender and flavourful but could’ve used a bit more sauce.
This was the Daily Pasta special which was orecchiette with a cream sauce and salami. The salami was cooked so that it was very crispy which was not what I was expecting. I thought it would be mixed in. Although if you mixed it in with the sauce then it would be less crispy. The sauce tasted quite generic and one dimensional though.
I shared the Duck Confit Pizza with my friend. It had BBQ sauce, roasted red pepper, carmelized onions and cilantro. The cilantro was an interesting touch to the pizza but mostly it tasted sweet like the BBQ sauce. As usual, it could’ve used more duck. The crust was nicely done though and was slightly chewy but crispy and the middle wasn’t soggy!
As our side, we also shared the Warm Potato Salad with whole mustard and shallots. I usually love potato salad but I didn’t like the strong sour mustard taste in this case. Wouldn’t get this again!
This was the Pizza Special of the day and it was a Tandoori Chicken Pizza. I think the flavours may have worked together a bit better for this compared to the duck confit pizza. Maybe because it was more savoury?
Service was a little slow considering there weren’t many patrons in the restaurant at the time but maybe they wanted to bring all the food out together.
The consensus was that the food was alright but could’ve been better. Or for the price, some of us were expecting a little more.
