Jinya Ramen Bar opened their new location in Kerrisdale back in May. It’s right next to The Hills and there’s a bus stop right in front of the store so it’s a great location. I went around 3pm and there was still a short wait! I was super hungry during this visit so it could’ve biased me slightly since everything tastes good when you’re hungry! Just letting you guys know!
The decor inside is much nicer than the Robson location and has a slightly more upscale feel. I noticed there is a lot of chicken ramen options on their menu. The menu also seems to have more variety and more side dishes too.
The presentation of the Takoyaki was so cute! I love how they give you a stick for each piece. Each piece is large and has two pieces of octopus inside. There’s a substantial amount of mayo on the plate though. A spicy version is available for $1 more.
This was the Tonkotsu Assari which is the No. 3 recommended item on their menu. It’s a pork broth base with pork chashu, kikurage, green onion, half an egg, spicy bean sprouts and thick noodles. I thought the broth was on the lighter side and not as thick as some other broths that I’ve tried at their Robson location. It had a pleasant pork flavour but I think overall it wasn’t too memorable after I had the awesome cold ramen (see below)! I picked this because I didn’t want anything spicy because I usually get something spicy and also I didn’t want any chicken ramen. Sadly there was only one piece of chashu here so I think they could’ve added another piece.
Since it’s summer we also had the Cold Ramen with pork chashu, egg, cucumber, bean sprouts, red ginger and spinach. You can choose to have a sesame dressing or a soy dressing and we went with the sesame dressing. BEST DECISION EVER. It was so amazingly delicious I could’ve eaten two bowls!!! Definitely get this in the summer!!! Their Robson location probably has it too.
We added on the Toyko Curry with salad combo ($5.50) to one of the ramens. Pretty standard salad.
The Tokyo Curry was also addicting and delicious. The thick curry sauce had a mild sweetness to it and I’m glad we added it!
I’m glad I don’t have to go downtown for ramen now since this is sort of close to my neighbourhood and I will add it to my ramen rotation.
