In my attempt to explore Commercial Drive more, I dragged my friends to Kin Kao Thai Kitchen.
The restaurant was smaller than I expected but seats about 30 people. The menus are presented on a wooden clipboard and I like the wood theme they have going on for the tables and chairs. Very minimalistic. We sat by the windows so it was nice and bright too.
We were served some sort of vegetable soup with bok choy, tofu and garlic with each of our entrees. It was a simple and light way to start the meal.
This was the Green Curry with Chicken. You can only choose between chicken or tofu for the protein. I’ve tried a few green curries before but I believe this was my favourite version! The chicken was tender and the curry flavour was just the right amount of creamy and spicy. I really like the heat from the curry and I could probably drink this. Or eat many bowls or rice with it.
The Pad Thai here is called a Phat Thai? For the protein you can choose between chicken or prawns. I went with the chicken and it turned out to be really dry so I suggest you get the prawns to avoid this problem. Or it could’ve been a one time thing… but I ended up leaving a lot of the chicken on the plate. Everything else was delicious although the tamarind sauce may have been too sweet for some but there was plenty of sauce! The portion was also large and filling.
Okay so based on the two dishes we shared here, there was a hit and a bit of a miss with the dry chicken but overall we had an enjoyable experience.
