Sushi Loku is on the corner of Saint George St. and E. Broadway. The building kind of looks like a house so it could be easy to miss.
We started off with the Sushi Pizza which is made with crispy deep fried rice topped with either salmon or tuna and avocado. There was also a fried garlic chip on each piece. We enjoyed the crispy texture of the rice with the fresh fish. They also have a Volcano version of this which is spicy.
Next we have the Ocean Dream roll which is wrapped in rice paper instead of seaweed. The filling consisted of prawn tempura, avocado, crab meat, cucumber and tuna with some spicy mayo. The presentation looked interesting but when you bite into the roll it sort of squishes out at the other end because everything is so soft inside. The rice paper was really soft and reminded me of eating Vietnamese salad rolls.
From left to right: Unagi roll, Crazy Boy roll and Alaska roll. The unagi roll and Alaska roll were fairly standard so the star here was the Crazy boy roll. It’s essentially a deep fried California roll with some spicy mayo, masago and teriyaki sauce on top. This was a hit with us!
The last roll we had was the Magma roll. The roll has crab meat and avocado inside with some chopped scallop on top. It also has spicy mayo and teriyaki sauce on top like many of the other rolls we’ve tried. This was one of their aburi rolls so the chopped scallop had a seared flavour to it.
We enjoyed the selection of rolls we had and the pricing was very reasonable as well! I really must try their aburi sushi next time since I’ve heard really good things about it!
