I’ve passed by the cozy looking Marulilu Cafe many time before and I finally went! It’s right across from the Broadway and Cambie Canada Line station. The space inside is a bit tight and you order and pay at the counter first and they will bring the food to you. You can also help yourself to some water on the counter.
Most of their menu items are less than $10, especially some of their breakfast items. They also have a wide variety of drinks like lavender lattes! Their daily dessert selection is available in their display case at the front.
We started off by sharing the ever popular Takoyaki. There was a surprisingly large chunk of octopus inside! They were also crisp on the outside and not too mushy so these get an A+ from me.
The Cream of Blended Dungeness Crab Risotto was delicious as well. Ridiculously creamy and cheesy, each bite was heavenly. The salad on the side helped to make it feel a bit healthier but not by much. This dish reminds me of the curry doria from Guu’s lunch menu.
The Omu-rice is ketchup rice cooked with bacon, onion and veggies with an omelet covering the rice.
Personally I don’t remember any bacon in here or even any onion…? I remember a few pieces of veggie and that’s about it. The rice tasted like ketchup as advertised and I liked that the egg was thick and fluffy. The sesame dressing for the side salad was also really good.
There are a lot of other things I wouldn’t mind trying like the rice burgers for example but I wish they were open for dinner (they close at 6pm).
