I saw some delish pictures of cakes from Cadeaux Bakery, including an Earl Grey cake which prompted my visits. Cadeaux Bakery is located on Cordova and Main St. just on the edge of Gastown. The interior is adorable and girly!
I like the open kitchen concept. There were some yummy looking croissants being made in the back (I have a thing for croissants lately).
There are a few tables inside but it’s fairly spacious. Looks like a nice place to catch up with some girl friends!
Okay so on my first visit, they didn’t have the Earl Grey Cake so I opted for my other current obsession… Carrot Cake! When I was young, the idea of carrot cake caused me to wrinkle up my face in disgust. Like how can you have VEGETABLES + CAKE??? Why would anyone like that?? I was so confused. Nowadays, I think I like carrot cake more than chocolate cake…maybe…sometimes. Times have changed for sure!
This 5 layer carrot cake was packed with raisins and walnut bits. The cream cheese frosting was a tad stiff and the cake could’ve been more moist but otherwise not a bad version.
However, the Earl Grey cake was a bit of a letdown. It really didn’t taste like Earl Grey. I tried really hard to taste it but it just wasn’t quite there. It just tasted like vanilla cake with chantilly cream, chocolate ganache and the tiniest hint of Earl Grey. I did read mixed reviews on this though.
