Disclaimer: All food was complimentary but opinions are my own
I was invited to a private tasting with two friends, courtesy of Zomato and Commodity Juicery. Let me begin by saying I really don’t have much experience with juicing and juice bars so this was all new to me! If you haven’t noticed, juice bars have been popping up left and right last year.
Commodity Juicery is located on Fraser and 24th. Right across from Earnest Ice Cream! My tasting was in the evening before they closed.
First we started off with the Kale Chips. I believe they were chili and lime flavoured. I could feel the flavours coming through with some of the natural bitterness from the kale at the end. I didn’t mind snacking on these!
Next we had the Zucchini Chips which were suppose to taste like sour cream and onion. I preferred the kale chips over these.
I saw that other bloggers who had also been invited for a private tasting had cute tasting cups but we just got a big glass. Not that it matters but it just looks less photogenic so I won’t post them. We tried four juices (Sweet Greens, All Greens, Feel the Beet and Orange Roots) and we found that they were all sweet and tasty due to the apples used. Apples are used as a base for a lot of drinks. Note to self: pick juices with apples! They really didn’t have a strong vegetable flavour which I liked.
We also tried a Quinoa Salad which was creamy in texture but a bit bland for my tastes.
The Sesame Donburi was a favourite of ours due to the dressing which tasted like soy sauce so it gave it more flavour than the quinoa salad.
Finally we got to try some treats! The Nut and Seed Macaroon was, as the name suggests, full of nuts and seeds. These are raw, vegan and not baked. The nuts and seeds gave it a buttery yet slightly crunchy texture. Too bad we only got a tiny piece!
The Bird’s Nest Cookie was very similar but had coconut, dates and walnuts in it. Being subtly sweet, I could probably eat a few of these!
Thanks again to Zomato and Commodity Juicery for letting me sample some healthy juices and snacks! I feel more open to drinking juices now that I know it’s not going to taste like straight-up vegetables.
