Happy Good Friday! Hope you all have a great long weekend!
Trattoria Italian Kitchen in Burnaby is right across from Crystal Mall inside Element Hotel. The Glowbal Group bakery Nosh also has a location in the lobby of the hotel. I’ve driven past before and it wasn’t obvious to me that it was a hotel though. I also noticed there was a new Dinesty next door!
We started with the Beef Carpaccio served with grainy mustard aioli, grana padano, arugula, pickled onions and forno bread. Beef was tender, not chewy and the acidic flavours brightened up the dish.
On Sunday’s there are some select pizzas for $10 so we got one to share. This was the Carbonara Pizza with proscuitto? and an egg baked on top. The flavour was really mild and it was just a boring pizza. It was underwhelming to say the least. Maybe the egg could’ve been sunny side up? I feel like I could’ve gone to MegaBite and had a more satisfying pizza. Good thing it was only $10!
Lastly, we shared the Rigatoni with sausage, roasted fennel, roasted peppers and roasted garlic cream. It seemed like it would be a recipe for success but sadly, the pasta was undercooked and tough to chew. I probably should’ve sent it back. All pastas are $11 on Tuesdays so if you want to try their pasta maybe go on a Tuesday.
So my experience here was sub-par and I probably wouldn’t come back unless it was on a Tuesday. There are a lot of other great pizza and pasta places around!
