After my visit to Bubble Waffle Cafe Kerrisdale, my friend wanted to meet up for lunch and go to Bubble Waffle Cafe at Royal Centre. This seems to be one of their newer locations. I was looking forward to more noodle soup after my experience at their Kerrisdale location.
The cafe stall is located on the lower level of Royal Centre where the food court is. Compared to the location in Kerrisdale and Aberdeen, there are less options for the toppings here.
They come in “sets” of different proteins (e.g. fish, beef, pork etc.) and you just pick one of the sets with your choice of soup base. This probably makes it easier for them to prepare the food and maybe it helps people decide faster.
This time I chose the Laksa soup with the Beef Set which includes beef balls, sliced beef and quail eggs. We both ordered the exact same combo. For the noodles you can choose between rice noodles or egg noodles. I went with the egg noodles this time. The laksa soup was even better than the satay soup I had last time! It had a great creamy spicy flavour to it. I might be biased because I like spicy things.
The plastic bowl here is smaller than at the restaurant so it looks like there are more toppings. According to Bubble Waffle Cafe, who commented on my Instagram post, they measure the toppings by weight so that it’s standardized across all locations. Good to know!
My drink was a cold HK style milk tea which hit the spot after having the hot and spicy noodle soup! Price wise ($9.50), this location is also more expensive than the Richmond locations since it’s downtown. They still have the Haianese chicken rice and Haianese chicken laksa soup here too.
You can add a bubble waffle for just $1. However, only the original flavour is available but the texture was good! Fancy flavours are nice but you can’t go wrong with original.
