I was on a brief health kick for a while so I decided to check out Melu Juice and Health Bar which is conveniently located near where I work. I saw some pictures of their yummy looking health bars and needed to try them! This is a combination of a few visits.
This was the Berry Colada Smoothie which has two layers. The first layer has pineapple, banana, house-made cashew mylk and dates. The second layer has raspberry, blueberry and blackberry. The smoothie was slightly tart from the mixture of berries but also had a nuttiness to it from the cashew milk and the banana flavour was evident as well.
This was the Undercover Curry Rice made with cauliflower, broccoli, corn, tomato and cilantro mixed together. The paste in the middle is the curry sauce and when you mix everything up it actually tastes pretty good! The cilantro flavour was also strong. The texture is more thick and dense than I imagined and it was like a slightly grainy paste. I was full after eating half the bowl!
EDIT: just to be clear, there is no actual rice in this
Melu serves a variety of “health bars” that come in familiar flavours like chocolate, lemon and mango. They are all raw, vegan and/or gluten free.
Since I’ve become a die-hard carrot cake fan, I chose this one called Frosty The Carrot Cake. It contains Shredded Carrot, Dates, Walnuts, Shredded Coconut, Cashews, Coconut Oil, Agave Nectar, Lemon, Vanilla, Pumpkin Spice, Himalayan Pink Salt. The bar was noticeably nutty on top while the base was a mixture of carrot and coconut. There was also a good hit of pumpkin spice that you get at the end!
This was the So Fudgin Good with Avocado, Coconut Cream, Coconut Oil, Cocoa, Pecans, Dates, Agave Nectar, Himalayan Pink Salt, Strawberry and Goji Berry Topping. I was surprised that this was actually very chocolatey! It lived up to its’ name and was very fudgy and sweet! I also like how their forks and spoons are made of wood so that it’s recyclable.
