Sydney Eats-Mr. Crackles

Once I saw photos of the sandwiches from Mr. Crackles with roast pork, I knew that I had to pay them a visit. Mr. Crackles is located in Surry Hills, not too far from the CBD.

The storefront is quite small with only a few bar style seats so you will likely have to take your sandwich to go during peak hours. The seats are too low for the counter though so you will have to stand anyway.

We can’t go somewhere called Mr. Crackles without trying their pork crackling right? The Crackling Cup comes with large pieces of crunchy thin crackling and it wasn’t so crunchy that it hurt my teeth. Phew! There was also a slightly sweet layer sprayed on before it was served.

The Crackles Classic seems to be the most popular option and comes with roast pork and Viet slaw. The roast pork is very similar to Chinese style roast pork! The sandwich is served on a chewy baguette and the sandwich was reminiscent of a banh mi sandwich. The succulent roast pork was not overly salty or fatty but moist and tender! It had great meaty flavour but it could use a bit more seasoning.

The Sticky BBQ Pork Sandwich had smokey BBQ pork, ranch sauce, salad, and onion rings served on a soft bun. This sandwich was sweet and sticky since the sauce gets everywhere! The meat was so delicious though! So tender and it just falls apart in your mouth and I personally like the soft bun more than the baguette. I think the onion rings could use some more work though. Perhaps a better batter? Be warned that the soft bun and heavy toppings makes this sandwich difficult to pick up.

We were very satisfied with our lunch here! Mr. Crackles is doing meat sandwiches right! It is a bit on the pricier side but 10/10 would do it again.
