In Australia, they commonly call fries “chips”. I stopped by The Traditional Chip Shop for some fish and chips while visiting the famous Bondi Beach.
Since it was winter in Australia, they also had an outdoor skating rink set up next to the beach but at the same time there were people surfing!
Wait let me back track, what I mean is that I should have ordered fish and chips at a place that sells fish and chips but sometimes I see to make terrible decisions…I really wanted to get a Steak and Guiness Pie and I saw that they had a combo with mushy peas and chips so that’s what I got.
I had been eating fries all week and I found that they were usually thick cut. They were also unseasoned here and I had to add a lot of salt and ketchup. The Steak and Guiness Pie had very tender cubes of beef enveloped by a flakey pie crust.
This was also the day I found out that I don’t like mushy peas. They literally tasted like peas so not sure what I was expecting but I thought they’d be prepared in a special way. In hindsight, I should’ve just ordered the pie by itself.
The Grilled Salmon with Gravy Chips was alright. I thought the salmon was cooked perfectly but lacked seasoning. The chips tasted a lot better with gravy.
Note to self, when you go to a fish and chips place, stick with the fish and chips.
