When You’re Finally Sick of Blueberries-Blueberry Crisp

I can’t believe it’s September already! Christmas is just around the corner… Back in July, I was so excited for blueberry season that I probably devoured 5lbs a week or so. I popped them like candy! Then after two weeks I slowly got sick of them but there were a lot of blueberries left so I decided to turn it into a blueberry crisp!

I wasn’t planning on blogging about this and now I can’t find the recipe I used…

However, I can still tell you what NOT to do. So the recipe I used called for about 5 cups of blueberries and I ended up using 4 cups of blueberries. Then it said to mix the blueberries with something like 3-4¬†tablespoons of flour so that it will thicken up the mixture so even though I used less than the original 5 cups of blueberries I still added 4 tablespoons of flour and they were big tablespoons too. Guess what? I ended up with some uncooked flour in the middle… oops! Don’t go too crazy with the flour! Or else cook it a bit longer. I just really wanted to make sure it wasn’t watery in the middle!

Here’s a similar recipe¬†and also this one. I like to read a bunch of similar recipes and then adjust them based on what I have on hand and what I like. E.g. add more crisp on top!

Blueberry Crisp

For the crisp, I noticed that a lot of recipes called for cold butter but I just used melted butter to mix with the oatmeal and flour and sugar to make the crisp.

Besides the mishap with the uncooked flour, the other parts were fine and it was delicious! It probably doesn’t look appetizing here because I cut it up shortly after taking it out of the oven. It’s best if you refrigerate it and then eat it! Not too bad for my first blueberry crisp. Maybe I’ll turn every fruit into a crisp now. Or if I put it into a pie shell it’ll be a really easy pie!
