T&T-Taiwanese Sticky Rice Rolls

EDIT: I wrote this last month and the price has now gone up to $4.29.

Another EDIT: Apparently it’s $4.50 now… >.>

I’ve decided that it’s time to share my addiction to Taiwanese Sticky Rice Rolls with you all! I’ve had them for many years now since I discovered them in Osaka Supermarket. Now that T&T has opened at Marine Gateway, I have even more opportunities to get one! Priced at $3.99, this is a great snack.

Unfortunately you cannot customize your sticky rice roll at this location. They are all pre-made and sitting in a warmer. Not a problem though because I’m not super picky about what’s in my rice roll. They all taste good to me! They do have a few varieties that include traditional, marinated pig ears, shredded chicken etc. General fillings include marinated egg, shredded egg, preserved vegetables, pork floss or Chinese donut. I was surprised that the Chinese donut was still crispy when I got mine.

If you wait till 8 or 9pm when they’re closing soon, I believe they go on sale for $3.49.

IKR ?!? That was one good bargain at $3.99 for many years, maybe even as low as $3.50 but my recollection is fuzzy now. I mean, it’s still a decent deal but we’re Chinese so the cheaper the better, right ?!? ;-)

And I also noticed their hot foods self-serve bar is priced differently now. Before it was $1.79/100g, then recently around $1.99 (?)/100g. Today I saw a new fixed price system. Small containers are $5.50, and large containers are $7.50. I bet everyone is stuffing their small/large containers to the max now. I see the new pricing rationale …… more revenue, easier to rid the food quantities prepared & displayed, etc. ‘Tho I do feel the two container sizes are chintzyly small.

HAHA yes the cheaper the better ;) guess the price was bound to go up eventually

Yeah I see some VERY over-filled containers but they seem to fit the lid over it somehow! I’ve only tried the hot food bar once so far though. I tried the fried chicken drumstick and it was better than I expected.

What did you think?
