Penang Delight Cafe is hidden away in a small plaza on W. 73rd and Hudson. It’s right next to Cafe L’Orangerie. Their first location is on Rupert street but I’ve never been there before. We came on a Monday and it was pretty quiet.
We started off by sharing some Roti Canai. It was okay but not the best I’ve ever had.
The Penang House Special Fish is a whole fish that is fried until it’s crispy and cooked in a chef’s special soy sauce. We loved the slightly sweet soy sauce with the crispy fish. I’m used to eating steamed fish so this was a nice change.
I think this was either the Rendang Beef or Kari Beef Brisket. I was expecting more curry sauce and the beef was chewy and not cooked down enough.
Lastly we had the Haianese Chicken. This was different than the Haianese chicken I’m used to eating as it had a special marinade or sauce on it and also lots of garnish. It was also not as smooth and velvety as the usual Haianese chicken that I’ve had before. It wasn’t bad though.
It was a bit of a hit and miss this time but at least I tried some new dishes.
