First post of 2018! Yes I know it’s been awhile but I’ve been busy moving to Sydney, Australia! I’m doing the working holiday visa for a year so all the posts this year will be from Sydney and they have great food here. For this post I’ll be talking about Miso Japanese Restaurant, situated in World Square, they are well known for their teishoku and fancy bento “boxes” (but it’s more like a bento platter). Every day they also feature a special bento with limited quantities. Please also note that they will not seat you until your entire group has arrived.
Since I’m unemployed right now and the bentos are pricey, I went with the simpler Miso Katsu Set ($17.80). Coming from Vancouver, that price tag is steep. I think I read on their menu that the pigs are bred a certain way and they only select the female ones? Don’t quote me on this…
The tonkatsu was perfectly fried with a crunchy exterior and wasn’t the least bit oily. There was a good amount of miso sauce on top to give it an extra kick of flavour. The meat was indeed very moist and tender. The set also comes with miso soup, salad, rice and your choice of two side dishes. It’s a balanced meal right?
The bf had the Kaarage Chicken Curry which was a bit cheaper ($13.80). I was also eyeing this as well and the chicken kaarage was very crisp and juicy and served with a generous helping of curry sauce. I can eat so much rice with that!
Others in our group ordered the bentos and they were huge. There was such a variety of side dishes that you felt like you didn’t know where to start! If I ever get more funds I’ll be back to try them.
