I was wandering around Chinatown looking for a place to eat and came across Tea Plus. They had a cute robin’s egg blue logo and there was plenty of seating inside so I took my chances and went in. Here you order and pay at the counter when you’re ready and each table has a number on it. Tea Plus is a chain restaurant and they have 6 other locations in Sydney.
After I discovered Happy Lemon, I’ve been addicted to cheese foam drinks. I ordered a Cheese Foam Matcha Milk Tea ($6.80). It delivered on the cheesy foam I so love with a flavourful matcha milk tea underneath. There is also lemon water available if you don’t want to purchase a drink.
The Taiwanese Corn Egg Pancake was our appetizer and it was drizzled with a sauce that reminded me of Maggi sauce. The egg inside was fluffy and the pancake wrap was thin and slightly chewy.
The Meat Sauce on Rice is a classic Taiwanese dish and I had a hankering for some meat sauce. I think I had the small size and it was huge. It was at least 2 bowls of rice and there was not as much meat as I expected but there was a lot of sauce and I was able to mix all the rice with the sauce with no trouble. It also came with half a marinated egg, pickled vegetables and 2 pieces of Shanghai bok choy. It was good but I wish the meat to rice ratio was better. At least it was cheap though!
The Sha Cha Beef with Rice featured tender marinated beef with a side of cabbage and corn. For your reference this was about half the portion of rice that I had for the meat sauce on rice and that was the small size already.
It was not very busy on a Sunday night and it’d be a nice place to hang out. I enjoyed the egg pancake and the drink. The other two items were average.
