Kusuka Cafe has opened up a second location close to Town Hall station and it’s got pastel vibes going. The space is twice as big now and they also have some new menu items. Here you’ll have to order at the counter and then they’ll bring the food to you.
They had this giant painting on the wall that says “Let tomorrow worry about itself”. Words I need to hear from time to time!
The Krispy Rendang is a new item they have featuring crispy fried chicken on top of hashbrowns on a bed of scrambled egg and rice. Rendang sauce is served on the side. The portion was actually quite big due to all the rice underneath! The crispy chicken and hashbrowns were the best part. I thought the egg was a bit overcooked but maybe they were trying to make sure the shape was solid enough? The server also came over to check if we thought the rendang sauce was too spicy as they had received some feedback from customers before that it was too spicy. The spice level was very mild and it could’ve been more spicy for me since I like spicy food.
Kusuka Cafe is well known for their mee goreng bowls and my friend ordered the Superbowl with sausage, corned beef and melted cheese, roasted pork with chili matah and a variety of greens on a bed of mee goreng noodles. It was a delicious savoury bowl and the noodles were the best part! I like how there’s some of everything in here and I liked it more than my Krispy Rendang. The flavours in the superbowl definitely stood out more and the spicy flavours were more noticeable. Maybe if the Krispy Rendang had a more impactful sauce that would’ve helped.
I would recommend getting any of their mee goreng bowls if you go! The table beside us ordered a bunch of them and it all looked good. They also serve really colourful drinks in various flavours. I always feel suspicious of the flavours if the colours are too wild though. For some drinks you even have the option of adding a cake slice on top of it (on the plastic lid since it is served in a takeout cup)! Not sure how practical that really is… but it definitely looks interesting.
