Nutie Donuts has opened up a new location in the Hunter Connection mall and I pass by every morning and gaze longingly at their donuts. This particular part of the mall is also filled with the smells of bacon and eggs so it’s really hard to walk by and not buy something. All their donuts are gluten free, dairy free and/or vegan! In addition, they also sell a variety of other treats such as vegan cheesecake, brownies and cookies. They have also started serving a few lunch items like hot soup.
Nutie Donuts have flavours like the Couch Potato which is a chocolate donut with chocolate covered potato chips on top and Rocky Road which has marshmallows on top. Other flavours include peanut butter brownie, cookie monster and cookies and cream.
I like how they include a cheeky little card that says “Abs are great but have you tried donuts?”. I decided to try the Salted Caramel donut which was decorated with some popcorn pieces on top. Salted caramel is one of my go-to flavours. The donut was surprisingly light and moist. It was actually more like a fluffy cake texture than a donut. I was expecting it to be a bit more dense but depending on your preferences this could be good. Flavourwise, I couldn’t taste any salt so it was mostly just sweet and it felt a bit unbalanced. Also, as I suspected, the popcorn was slightly stale. It was still pretty good for something that’s gluten free though and I’d be interested in trying some of their other flavours.
I also tried the Carrot Cake Muffin which is not dairy free since there is dairy in the icing. This was on the dense side for a muffin and I was hoping it would be fluffier like the donut but it wasn’t too sweet and had lots of tasty carrot and raisin bits inside.
If you have any dietary restrictions, Nutie Donuts could be the answer to your problems! There is a treat to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth in there.
