We had a going away lunch for my co worker at Palings Kitchen and Bar. It’s located in the Ivy precinct near Wynyard station and it was my first time there. Palings is located on the first floor and the restaurant has some covered areas but the middle area is open air. Interestingly enough, the menu features western dishes as well as Thai dishes.
We started off with some Fries to share. These were perfectly crispy and the portion was huge! It came with some aioli for dipping and we devoured this in no time.
We also ordered some Veggie Spring Rolls to share as well. The spring rolls were hot and crispy with some vermicelli noodles, carrot and mushroom inside. This came with a plum sauce for dipping.
For my main dish, I had the Larb Salmon which was a deep fried salmon salad with a chilli lemon dressing, roasted rice powder, coriander, eschalot, mint and coriander sawtooth. I was trying to be a bit healthier, hence I ordered a salad but upon reading the description, I wasn’t sure if it really included many greens. Or at least they weren’t mentioned on the menu but when I tried to ask our server, she wasn’t very helpful so I ordered it anyway. Turns out the salad was really as per the menu description. I wouldn’t count the mint and coriander leaves as greens. The salad also had a VERY strong fish sauce smell and the dressing was too strong and acidic as well. It was just very over powering. The salmon itself was on the dry side so overall this wasn’t a great dish for me. Should’ve stuck with something like pad thai!
Nonetheless, Palings seems to be a popular spot to hang out and the ambiance is pretty good.
