Haven Specialty Coffee

Haven Specialty Coffee is a well known cafe right beside Central Station, just steps away from the exit towards Elizabeth Street. There is currently some construction going on outside for the light rail. It’s a very convenient spot to grab brunch if you don’t want to walk too far.

I went to the washroom and there was a chalkboard that you could doodle on.

I was in a French Toast kind of mood so I ordered the Miso French Toast with seasonal fresh fruit, ginger rhubarb, tofu cream, miso butter, and red beans on brioche bread. After reading the description again, I don’t recall any red beans in my dish… I thought everything tasted a bit too carmelized, aka burnt so it wasn’t a pleasant flavour. The bread was not as soft and fluffy as I expected either. Furthermore, I also didn’t like the way they cooked the fruit. I didn’t feel like the elements in the dish went well together so unfortunately this dish was a miss for me. I was looking for something a bit sweeter and the flavour profile here was more burnt/acidic so it didn’t work for me.

I would come back to try their other dishes though since they consistently get good reviews. The service was also excellent!
