I was arranging a date to catch up with my friend and she told me about this Italian eatery called Il Posto in Ladner village that she had tried. My initial reaction was “What were you doing there? There’s food there?”. I’m down to try new places though and it’s actually pretty close to Richmond.
The building looked cute which was a good sign. It was very quiet here and there seemed to be plenty of parking. Like any other Italian eatery, Il Posto serves a range of pastas and pizzas. We decided to get one of each and share.
We chose the Brooklyn which had mozzarella, grana padano, pepperoni, fennel sausage, garlic oil and oregano. At first glance, the pizza looked pretty good. However, I was expecting a thinner crust pizza. Taste wise it was very good and the thicker crust had a pleasant chew to it and a slight char underneath.
For our pasta option, we had the Spaghetti alla Amatricianni. This dish consisted of tomatoes, guanciale, Calabrian chilli, parsley and pecorino. It could’ve used a tad more seasoning or guanciale but otherwise it was a fresh tasting pasta. The highlight for me was actually the piece of foccacia bread served on the side. It was brushed with some olive oil and seasoned very well. It was the salt that I was looking for.
Our server mentioned that their dessert special of the day was a Cheesecake and we also wanted to try the Tiramisu so we ended up getting both! The Cheesecake was served with a fresh whipped cream, berry compote and a dulce de leche type sauce that was delicious! The texture of the cheesecake was super light, soft and creamy too. No regrets ordering this!
The Tiramisu was light with a nice balance between the mascarpone cheese and the espresso-soaked lady fingers. It wasn’t a sweet dessert and provided a nice way to end a carb heavy meal.
Lastly, our server was fantastic! He had a good sense of humour and was attentive.
