Yardbird came up on Yelp as one of their most popular and highly rated restaurants. Their chicken and waffles dish sounded amazing but was also really pricey ($36 USD which is about $45 CAD). Since I love fried chicken I had to try it.
They have a bar/lounge area on one side and another more brightly lit dining room. We made a reservation for brunch at 10am (when they open) and were promptly seated. Yardbird is located inside the Venetian. It still surprises me that there are people gambling in the morning… or maybe they never went home?
We ordered the Chicken ‘N’ Watermelon ‘N’ Waffles which came with their 27 hour brined fried chicken, spiced watermelon and cheddar waffles. This was a very large portion with 4 pieces of chicken (breast, thigh, drumstick and wing) and 4 pieces of waffle as well. I was worried it would be overpriced but it did not disappoint! The chicken was perfectly seasoned, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It was love at first bite! There is also Honey Hot sauce on the table if you want to spice up your meal.
The waffles were fluffy and you can pour some of their Bourbon Maple sauce on it if you’d like but I thought that took away from the savoury cheddar flavours. It was really good on its’ own already.
Lastly I’ve never had spiced watermelon before and it was refreshing. It almost reminded me of mojito flavours from the blend of pepper, lemon and herbs.
The next thing I need to rave about are the Homemade Biscuits!!! Wow I’ve never had biscuits quite like this before. They were so fluffy and soft and buttery. I know those are usually the words you want to use to describe biscuits but these were next level. Served with some honey butter and homemade jam, these were the perfect side dish.
The Smoked Brisket Sandwich came with Swiss cheese, smokey tomato jam, and mayo served on Ciabatta bread. Some pickles and fries were served on the side. We were quite full by the time this arrived and it was a big sandwich! There was a lot of bread but it was fluffy and delicious. The smoked brisket was thinly sliced, tender and juicy. I love how there was a lot of Swiss cheese that clung on to the brisket.
My friends shared a $5 USD drip coffee but they found it noteworthy since the blend was so smooth. I tried some and for the first time ever, I could almost say I would drink it black.
I must also mention that the service at Yardbird was impeccable! Our server was very friendly and checked on us multiple times. When my friend went to the bathroom, another server came by and folded up her napkin and put it back on the table!
I’m so glad we tried Yardbird and I would highly recommend it if you’re a fan of fried chicken and Southern comfort food.
