Gazi was recommended by a friend and after checking them out on Zomato, I was sold by the great reviews. Although it’s not fine dining, I felt a bit underdressed as a tourist since everyone else looked like they had just got off work so they were in their business casual attire. The ambiance was still pretty casual though.
Gazi is one of the restaurants opened by MasterChef Australia judge, George Calombaris. They are located close to Federation Square and in the free tram zone. The free tram zone is a great way to get around the CBD and perfect for tourists! The city circle tram stops at most of the major city attractions and even provides a brief history of each stop along the way. Continue reading →
Hawker Chan is the first street food vendor to achieve 1 Michelin Star. Their original location is based in Singapore but they have opened a location in Melbourne last December so lucky me! I also happened to come across their videos online as well so I was excited to go. They’re the cheapest Michelin Starred restaurant so I can actually afford it. Hawker Chan is famous for their soya sauce chicken dish which costs about $2 in Singapore!

I took a mini vacay down to Melbourne for 3 days this week! I’ve heard all about their famous brunch and coffee so I had a hard time deciding where to go. However, none of them could possibly be bad! I just wish I could eat more. For one of my brunch stops I went to White Mojo, located in Hardware Lane.
Melbourne is known for their amazing laneways filled with cafes and restaurants. It’s a very lively area to be in and it feels hidden away yet everyone is there. The photo above is just for reference and not where White Mojo is located. Continue reading →
Tacofino has opened up yet another location and this time it’s under the Bentall 5 building in the Coal Harbour and financial district area. This location is called Tacofino Oasis. It may be a bit tricky to locate though if you are not familiar with the area as it’s in the back part of the building away from the sidewalk. It’s in the same little plaza as Fujiya.
I work really close by so I came to check them out during my lunch break. Previously their Tacofino White Lightning truck was parked in this area on Burrard street but now that their brick and mortar store is open, the truck will be parked elsewhere. In fact, it even got a new paint job and it’s now pink! Tacofino Oasis is only open till 7pm Monday to Friday and they are closed on weekends. Service was fast despite the long line up and food came pretty fast as well since they have a bigger kitchen compared to the food truck. Continue reading →
I must admit that I don’t eat a lot of Chinese donut. Not that I don’t like it but my family was never really into it but I’ve had it a few more times lately and I’m digging it. I’ve come across Double Double Restaurant before on Instagram but I never really knew where it was. While looking for some Sunday family lunch options, I decided to figure out where it was and go.
Double Double Restaurant is located in the plaza next to Parker Place (not the Aberdeen side, the other side). We went around 1pm and got a table right away as a lot of people were leaving at that time. The turnover rate is pretty fast. Continue reading →
Taste of Yaletown is a dining event that is similar to Dine Out Vancouver except it’s just in Yaletown. Various restaurants participate and offer set menus for $25/35/45. Can you believe this is actually my first time participating? After perusing all the menus online, I came to the conclusion that Brix & Mortar would be a good choice and it seemed like I would get my bang for my buck.
Brix has two entrances, one on Hamilton Street and one on Homer Street. Today we entered through the Hamilton entrance as the Homer Street entrance was closed for a private event. The restaurant is a popular wedding venue. When I was browsing their photos on Instagram, there were more wedding photos than food photos!
Featured above is one of their summer cocktails. Yes you read that right, it’s a cocktail! This was the Big Flavours in Little China which had Absolut Mandarin Vodka, Lychee Liquor, Fresh Lemon, Clove Spiced Pear and Plum Bitters. I’ve never seen a drink served like this before! In fact I didn’t even know the container was that waterproof. It was fruity and sweet and I liked the combination of mandarin and lychee. Our server said that they’re slowly transitioning to winter cocktails so this may not be available soon.

My girl friends and I recently took a weekend road trip to Seattle. We were prepared to eat and shop and the gloomy weather wasn’t going to stop us! First on our list was Pike Place Market. The last time I was there was a few years ago and I didn’t end up trying any of the food because I had ate lunch first before going. Yeah I wasn’t an informed foodie back then… This time I was prepared though. What I didn’t know was that there would be hour long line ups.
