Foret Noire Patisserie is a cake and pastry cafe on Broadway close to the Broadway City Hall station. I had actually visited Foret Noire Patisserie last month but they also invited me to come in to try some of their cakes as well. This post is a combination of both visits.
The following two cakes were complimentary. We tried the Broadway, which had a chocolate biscuit at the bottom, Valrhona chocolate mousse, chocolate crumble, chocolate glaze and vanilla creme brule in the centre. If you’re a fan of chocolate, then this would be perfect for you! It was rich and decadent.
My first trip to Europe was to London! Flat Iron came up a few times in my food search and they’re known for their simple menu featuring the flat iron steak for £11 (or about $18.75). They have various locations across London and we went to the one in Soho. We arrived at about 6:15pm and waited about 30 minutes. They always have a line up so be prepared to wait!
They give you a small cleaver for a knife which was pretty cute! Made me feel dangerous >=)
I was invited to check out the new Fall and Winter menu for Blossom Dim Sum and Grill. As this was a lunch tasting on a weekday, I didn’t get to try all the items since I had to go back to work. This will be a limited review of the appies and small dishes that came out first.
The space was bright and inviting with beautiful murals on the wall. the use of velvet chairs gave the space an even more luxurious feel.
While looking for a brunch spot that takes reservations and didn’t have line ups, I thought of Glowbal and their $12 benny promotion. I’ve been meaning to try them since it sounded like a great deal. I’m all about the cheap eats!
It was a warm day so we opted to sit on the patio. There are 3 benny’s that you can choose from: Original, West Coast or Florentine. They also have other brunch items if you don’t feel like having a benny.
I was arranging a date to catch up with my friend and she told me about this Italian eatery called Il Posto in Ladner village that she had tried. My initial reaction was “What were you doing there? There’s food there?”. I’m down to try new places though and it’s actually pretty close to Richmond.
The building looked cute which was a good sign. It was very quiet here and there seemed to be plenty of parking. Like any other Italian eatery, Il Posto serves a range of pastas and pizzas. We decided to get one of each and share.
I went to explore the Shipyards Night Market for the first time but didn’t find any of the food trucks interesting so my friend and I decided to get food somewhere else. After doing a quick Google search, we decided on Smoke and Bones BBQ. They’re located near Capilano Mall, just a few minutes from the Lions Gate Bridge. They’ve won several BBQ competitions before as can be seen from the trophy’s they have on display.
We arrived around 6:30pm on a hot day and we were surprised to find that the inside of the restaurant was even hotter. It was definitely over 30 degrees in there and they didn’t have air conditioning, just some slow spinning ceiling fans… However, we were determined to get our BBQ fix so of course we stayed. We just chugged a lot of cold water!
Steveston is a great place to visit on a sunny day and I finally found the Outpost Mini Donut Company on my most recent visit! The shop is pretty small with just a table and a small couch to sit on. I believe most people take their donuts to go but the shop smells amazing!
You can buy the mini donuts in a half dozen, baker’s dozen or a box of 20. We decided to get a baker’s dozen in a cone which is 50 cents cheaper than getting it in a box ($8.50). We were going to eat them right away anyway. They display all the flavours of the day on a tray at the counter so you have an idea of what they all look like.
OEB hails from Calgary and they have opened their first BC location in Yaletown next to Provence Marinaside. I was invited for a media preview by my Instagram friend @guacarons courtesy of @nativmediaco. All food and drinks were complimentary but opinions are my own.
My friend works in the tourism industry and every year they have a tourism challenge where you try to collect stamps from different tourist attractions and then you can get in for free for the whole year. Sounds like a great perk to me! As part of the tourism challenge, some restaurants (mainly hotel restaurants) also have special offers. Market By Jean-Georges was offering a buy 1 get 1 free breakfast/brunch (up to $25) so we decided to check it out. Market is located inside the Shangri-La Hotel.
I haven’t had afternoon tea in years so it’s about time I tried it again. After doing some research, it seemed like Neverland Tea Salon was a good option based on price, food portions and ambiance. They even serve vegan and dairy free versions of their afternoon tea. If you’re not feeling too hungry, you can order their “demi-tea” which is a smaller version of their afternoon tea with less food items.
