My friends and I had originally planned to go to Gyu-Kaku but they can’t do groups of more than 10 people so our back up plan was to go to Royal Seoul House. Royal Seoul House has been around since 1990 but I guess they’ve been in business for this long for a reason! Also there aren’t any other Korean BBQ places nearby either.
I’ve previously tried Korean-Mexican fusion food before at the Disco Cheetah food truck and it was pretty good so I was interested in trying a similar concept at TAKO or Taqueria Koreano.
They are just outside the Stadium Chinatown skytrain station which is extremely convenient! I work close to Waterfront station so I just hop on the train for a few stops to get here for a quick lunch.
I asked for Korean Food one night, and this is what my dear Food GPS points me towards. Let’s dive right in; Samsoonie Noodle and Rice, a restaurant tucked away in a corner of an oddly shaped plaza. These places usually scream, “I’m delicious, come to me!” Let’s find out if that’s the case.

Thanks to Instagram foodie and food blogger, Jacqueline (Check out her blog here), I got to visit the new rebranded Miura Restaurant and Bar with some other foodies. It was formerly known as Miura Waffle and Milk Bar. They were also featured on You Gotta Eat Here! Don’t worry they still have some of their famous waffle sandwiches on the menu! As a restaurant and bar, they serve appies and entrees that are more izakaya style. Of course there are also alcoholic beverages.
The blue one is Breakfast at Tiffany’s and the orange one is the Morning Glory but I can’t remember the name of the other drink. Continue reading →
Dae-Ji Pork Cutlet House looks a bit run down from the outside but the food is so good! There’s limited seating inside and you can’t have a group with more than 4 people but it’s worth the wait! They are located on Dunsmuir and Seymour with various other locations as well.
First off, I must talk about the Kimchi Fried Rice!!! This was my favourite dish here. Don’t worry I’ll get to the pork cutlet soon! Continue reading →

I was invited to another Chinese Bites event last month and this time it was at the Aberdeen food court with 60 other foodies. I’m quite familiar with the food court (or so I thought) and I’ve spent a lot of time here when I was younger. Now I had the chance to try EVERY food stall! It was a dream come true yet I feared for my growing waistline. #foodbloggerproblems
So without further ado… let the gluttony begin!
Starting from left to right:
Milk tea with pearls (Estea Express)
Iced lemon ribena (Bubble Waffle)
House special: mango coconut juice with tapioca, mango and pomelo bits (8 Juice)
I discovered Haroo two years ago and that’s pretty much where I go for Korean food if I don’t want to go downtown. It’s tucked in a corner next to Deer Garden on Alexandra Road.

Over the weekend I was invited by ChineseBites to the International Summer Night Market (the one near IKEA). On our way there, we almost ran over a super cute bunny as it dashed across the road! Don’t worry it survived! Okay back to the night market…
My boyfriend and I arrived around 8pm and the night market was dead compared to the other night market (the duck one). There were hardly any vendors and there weren’t that many food vendors either. It was pretty sad since this was the original night market that I used to go to but I guess the competition has gotten tough. On the bright side, this means literally no lines ups and no crowds. I also heard the food is a bit cheaper here and no entry fee either.
Red Chicken is located under Ebisu on Bute and Robson Street. It’s sort of tucked away but not really. For your reference, Breka Bakery is also right across the street.
I’ve finally tried the famous lunch set at Sura Korean Restaurant! This was my first time at their downtown location but I’ve been to their Richmond location in Aberdeen Mall twice now. We also just beat the lunch rush here, so far so good! We actually decided to go to Sura after we tried to go to the Ramen Butcher for their $5 soft opening special but the line was ridiculously long.
We ordered the $15 lunch set which comes with a lot of food. You need to order a minimum of 2 sets per table. We had 3 people so we had 3 sets. Sorry this was a while ago so I don’t quite remember everything!
Everyone starts off with a bowl of congee! More flavourful than I expected since I’m not a congee fan.
Spicy Squid Salad. I liked the addictive spiciness.
Green Salad
Bulgogi!Meat was tender and the sauce was good. I liked how it came with some veggies.
Mung bean jelly with salad but it didn’t have any flavour except for the spicy sauce on top of it. It was just like eating jello.
Herb Pork Belly/Bossam. Tender and fatty!
Grilled Atlantic Croaker. Lots of bones and fishy. Gotta eat this really carefully!
Nam Yang Chicken (sweet and sour fried chicken or it could’ve been pork…) I love sweet and sour stuff so this was one of my favourite dishes.
Potato Pancake
Tofu Jjigae?
At the end of the meal we were served some Korean rice punch which I’ve never had before. It was mostly like a sweet tasting sugar water with some rice particles.
We each got a bowl of rice too. I liked that there was a variety of food and we were stuffed after the meal. The food just kept coming! The price is also pretty good if you want to sample a variety of Korean cuisine. The dishes aren’t big but there’s enough to fill you up.
They also have a $20 lunch set with some more expensive items. See my previous review for dinner at Sura Korean Restaurant here.
