Hawker’s Delight is known for their Malaysian-Singaporean cuisine and I finally had a chance to try it! They’re a bit of a hole in the wall and the inside is kinda dark and small too. You order at the counter and then they’ll give you a number and call you when it’s ready.
Our food came INCREDIBLY fast. I guess because everything is pretty much prepared already and they just need to assemble it in a bowl. We both ordered the Laksa for $7.15!!! It was a HUGE piping hot bowl and the noodles were filled all the way to the top. Not sure if you can tell how big it is from this picture! The toppings include a hard boiled egg, tofu puffs, chicken and sliced fish cubes. The chicken was sliced into thin strips and was tender and smooth. There was also some sauce on top but I wasn’t sure what it was but it was tasty mixed in with everything. There were also some bean sprouts at the bottom that I discovered later. The soup was very creamy but not as spicy as I imagined. The heat was more like an afterthought.
Needless to say, neither of us finished our bowls and we ended up taking half to go. The take out containers cost $0.25 each but it was still a good deal considering this was two meals for me. We should really learn to share. Also, our lunch took less than half an hour! Not everything is this cheap but the portion makes up for it.
Good food, great prices!
I had orgininally planned on visiting Haezuk, a pirate themed Korean Japanese fusion restaurant but it turns out they were closed for renovations even though it seemed like they had opened recently. Anyway, Stepho’s was conveniently located around the corner and there wasn’t much of a line up for lunch so we went there instead.
We decided to all share a Calamari as an appetizer. It was presented with a small size of Greek salad, banana pepper and a lemon wedge. The appetizer portion wasn’t that big compared to the entrees. For another extra $3, you can get the rice, Greek salad, potatoes and a larger portion of calamari for the entree version. Taste wise it was not bad.
This was the Small Lamb Souvlaki platter. A small just means you get one skewer while a large means you get two. It came with the usual rice pilaf, roasted potatoes and Greek salad. My co worker seemed satisfied with everything. My other co worker also ordered this and she got a piece of pita bread to go with it but that was after all our food arrived and hers didn’t…

So I heard that there was $5 cheap eats at the Famous Warehouse! Of course that meant I had to check it out so I went on a Friday night with my two girlfriends for some snacks and drinks =) When we got there around 7 there was a small line up but we only waited for like ten minutes so that’s not bad since the place was pretty small. It looked pretty dark and funky inside with like two TV screens.
There was also a free air guitar sign outside the bathrooms haha
The menu really had everything for $5!!! But they were mostly snack type foods like nachos, fries, wings, but they did have a few burgers and they were big!
I didn’t try this but it was big for $5! Baja Fish Tacos. Ok fish tacos seem to be on a lot of menus everywhere now! It came with some pineapple salsa. These were pretty bland tasting and I wasn’t sure if I could taste the fish anyway.
Chicken caesar wrap with fries. I quite liked this there was definitely a lot of lettuce in it but my friend said it was very filling so probably better value than ordering fish tacos.
We also ordered two plates of wings to share. For $5 I didn’t expect much anyway.
BBQ wings. The wings were really small but can’t complain cuz it was so cheap.
Hot wings with dip.
They had a lot of drinks but there were no prices. I ordered a sex on the beach and when I got the bill it was $6.25 so that’s not bad for like 2oz or so. I can’t really tell…
If you don’t care about food quality and just want to chill with some drinks then you should try this place. Otherwise the food quality is reaaaally meh. Or else you can stick with ordering a burger. On the other hand it’s REALLY cheap! I’m sure I’ll come back sometime. The cheap Asian in me can not resist.
