First post of 2018! Yes I know it’s been awhile but I’ve been busy moving to Sydney, Australia! I’m doing the working holiday visa for a year so all the posts this year will be from Sydney and they have great food here. For this post I’ll be talking about Miso Japanese Restaurant, situated in World Square, they are well known for their teishoku and fancy bento “boxes” (but it’s more like a bento platter). Every day they also feature a special bento with limited quantities. Please also note that they will not seat you until your entire group has arrived.
JapaDog has an actual restaurant at the McArthurGlen Outlet. This is probably one of the more affordable food options here if you’re looking for a quick snack.
This JapaDog store has a lot of seating and it’s located near the back corner of the outlet next to the washrooms. The menu is similar to their downtown store.

The Breakfast Table is situated on Broadway and Granville, across from McDonald’s. They specialize in all day breakfast/brunch with an Asian twist.
The inside is painted a robin’s egg blue and there’s a moderate amount of seating. When I went in November, it wasn’t too busy yet around lunch time and there was just a short wait. They can call you or text you when your table is ready so we just went over to Chapters to browse around first.
The menu features various hashes (is this a word?) with different proteins such as fried chicken, beef bulgogi and smoked cosalmon along with more classic dishes like the classic benedict, waffles and French toast.
I first reviewed Sushi Aria at the beginning of the year when they first opened and I wasn’t particularly impressed. Now that it’s been about a year, I gave them another go and it was a much better experience.
First we started off with some Salmon Sashimi. Fresh and not mushy. Continue reading →
I was looking for a new sushi place in my neighbourhood on Yelp when I came across Sushi Hoon. The reviews were above average so I decided to give them a go. They are located on Granville and 64th next to where Bubble World used to be.
The interior looks more modern and spacious that you might guess from looking at the outside. Continue reading →
Disclaimer: All food was complimentary but opinions are my own
I was invited to another ChineseBites event at VanVan Izakaya on Robson across from Forage. All the dishes below were shared between 6 people and we tried most of their menu. If you see awkward shadows in my photo, that’s someone else pointing their camera at the same time (or everyone)!
This was the Unagi Kabayaki with teriyaki sauce. The eel had a nice sweet flavour from the teriyaki sauce and it was tender. I like eel so I approve of this. Continue reading →
