I was invited to another Chinese Bites dinner and this time it was at Nu Chinese Bistro. It’s located at Cosmo Plaza on Garden City and McKim Way. It’s on the second floor and the plaza was a bit difficult to find since there are so many there and I wasn’t sure which one it was. The restaurant looks pretty new and since they are located on the second floor they get lots of lighting.
We started off with the Xiao Long Bao(XLB). These were surprisingly big and super juicy! Continue reading →
Top Shanghai is one of my favourite Shanghainese restaurants! My family went on a Monday and it wasn’t busy at all. They are usually packed on weekends. Their table spacing is quite cramped so it makes moving around difficult.
This was a Suzhou Style Spiced Smoked Fish. The flavour is a little bit sweet and the meat is still flaky but more tough and cooked through? It also has a lot of bones. Continue reading →
For my friend’s going away dinner, we went to Shanghai House which is in the plaza across from Richmond Centre. It doesn’t seem too popular though since it was kinda empty on a Saturday night. For the first time, I was too busy eating to take pictures of all the food because I was hungry but I can talk about half the things we ate!
What’s a visit to a Shanghainese restaurant without some XLBs (xiao long baos)? Here they serve six in a steamer and they were big! Much bigger than the ones at Dinesty I had recently. These ones were actually full of juice! And I like ’em big. ;)
Happy December! I can’t believe Christmas is only 24 days away! I’m trying to get Christmas-y now and I just decorated my staircase with purple and gold foil garland.
Long post ahead!
For my friend’s birthday, we decided to celebrate at Sura Korean restaurant in Richmond. It’s located where Tropika used to be inside Aberdeen mall. I’ve never been to their location in downtown before but the reviews for the Richmond location were really bad… so I was just crossing my fingers and hoping they were wrong.
The servers will bring your food over on a small cart with all the food on it instead of carrying each plate. For the Bulgogi Bibimbap, they mixed it tableside and they ask you how much hot sauce you want mixed in too. Since we had a lot of people sharing I didn’t end up trying a lot of this dish but it tasted standard.
