Botanist is one of the newer restaurants in Vancouver and it is located inside the Fairmont Pacific Rim. It has taken over the space where ORU used to be (not that I’ve been there). We arrived before noon so it was still fairly quiet.

Ajisai Sushi Bar has consistently topped lists of best sushi restaurants in Vancouver and finally I made it here to try it! I went super early right after they opened at 5pm so there was no line up. They are located right around the corner from London Drugs in Kerrisdale.
We started off with Ramune, a Japanese soda. If you’ve never had this before, it will be an interesting experience opening the bottle. There’s a marble at the top of the opening that you have to push down with a plastic fixture on the lid before you are able to drink from the bottle. FYI the small tea pot thing in the back is actually for soy sauce.
My friend was moving to Taiwan for her new teaching job so we were going to eat with her before she left. We decided on Lips Resto since it just opened and it had nice pictures. The restaurant was empty except for one table when we arrived at 7pm. Turns out we didn’t even need a reservation. It’s never a good sign to have an empty restaurant! Even a new one. We appreciated the nice dining space though.
So my friends wanted Oysters so we ordered 6 served with horseradish, fennel and dill slaw. I forgot what the two sauces on the side were. I literally forgot right after the waiter said it. Oops. We thought the oysters were really small. Continue reading →
