Chewies-Lunch and Happy Hour Time!

I don’t do happy hour often, but when I do it’s at Chewies! They have buck a shuck oysters! Need I say more?
Chewies Steam and Oyster Bar

Okay to be honest it’s only been in the last 2 years that I’ve started eating oysters and boy was I glad that I started! They have a new rule here where each person is only allowed to order 6 oysters at a time per order because sometimes one table will order a lot and then the person shucking oysters won’t be able to move onto the next order for a long time. However, you can order many times! They have $1 oysters as well as $2 premium oysters. I personally can’t tell the difference so it doesn’t matter to me! Continue reading →

Sydney Eats-Mr. Crackles

Once I saw photos of the sandwiches from Mr. Crackles with roast pork, I knew that I had to pay them a visit. Mr. Crackles is located in Surry Hills, not too far from the CBD.

Mr. Crackles

The storefront is quite small with only a few bar style seats so you will likely have to take your sandwich to go during peak hours. The seats are too low for the counter though so you will have to stand anyway. Continue reading →

Chachi’s-Sandwich Mania!

Disclaimer: All food was complimentary but opinions are my own

Sherman (Sherman’s Food Adventures) was organizing a tasting for Chachi’s at Metrotown and kindly invited me to come along. =)

Chachi's Metrotown

Chachi’s is a chain restaurant from Calgary and the Metrotown location is their first location in BC. They are located in the food court and the sandwiches are better than expected considering that they’re in the food court! Keep reading to find out which ones were my favourite! Continue reading →

O’Love Bistro

O'Love Bistro

My co-worker told me about this sandwich that he was really passionate about from O’Love Bistro. O’Love is a Mediterranean/Greek inspired bistro tucked away on the side/back of Bentall 1 . I would’ve never found this place if I wasn’t looking for it. I love how the name is like a play on words with “olive”.  Continue reading →

Via Tevere Neapolitan Express-Wood-Fired Pizza Sandwiches

My co-worker recommended that I try the wood-fired pizza sandwiches from Via Tevere. I didn’t even know that there was such a thing so I was quite curious! I had never investigated this food truck before since I assumed they sold pizza but turns out it’s all wood-fired sandwiches.

Via Tevere Neapolitan Express

They offer four different types of sandwiches and they only accept cash! These “saltimbocca” sandwiches are cooked in a 900 degree woodfire oven and that gives the bread the same qualities as a pizza crust.  Continue reading →

Fondway Cafe-Opening Event

Disclaimer: All food was complimentary but opinions are my own

I was invited to Fondway Cafe for their media launch event  this month. Fondway Cafe used to be in Crystal Mall but they have relocated to Beresford Street which is just behind the skytrain station. The cafe is in a residential area with lots of apartments.

Fondway Cafe

The cafe is pretty quaint and kitschy looking. I love the decor here and they have high ceilings which makes it look more spacious. I can see myself hanging out here with some girl friends! They also have some interesting art painted on the wall.  Continue reading →

That Time I Ate the Whole Food Court-Taste of Aberdeen

Disclaimer: All food was complimentary but opinions are my own

I was invited to another Chinese Bites event last month and this time it was at the Aberdeen food court with 60 other foodies. I’m quite familiar with the food court (or so I thought) and I’ve spent a lot of time here when I was younger. Now I had the chance to try EVERY food stall! It was a dream come true yet I feared for my growing waistline. #foodbloggerproblems

So without further ado… let the gluttony begin!

Aberdeen Food CourtStarting from left to right:

  • Iced lemon ribena (Bubble Waffle)
  • House special: mango coconut juice with tapioca, mango and pomelo bits (8 Juice)
  • Iced Genmaicha (Saboten)
  • Matcha soy bean (Strike)
  • Iced honey matcha tea (Teppan Kitchen)

Strike-Aberdeen Food Court

Strike has taken over the spot where Vera’s used to be (in the corner by the washrooms). So far no one has really been successful in this sport but hopefully Strike will be here to stay. Strike is a Taiwanese restaurant and they have a location on Garden City and one on Broadway. This location in particular specializes in Taiwanese sandwiches.

Big Rock Urban Eatery-Not Impressed

Big Rock Urban Eatery is the newest brewery to join the Olympic Village area. They started out in Alberta and now they have a BC location.

We were here for the food though since I am still acquiring the taste for beer. The building doesn’t look like much from the outside but the inside looked industrial hip. It was really loud inside even though there weren’t that many people or loud music playing but it was hard to hear people from across the table or even beside you. Maybe it was just the way the building was constructed.
