The Smelly Cheesecake

I was intrigued by the name of this Korean-run cafe with their bright yellow awnings. The Smelly Cheesecake has 2 locations, one near Strathfield station and one near Lidcombe station. On this occasion I visited the Lidcombe location. They have display cases with full sized cakes and also cakes by the slice. In addition, they also serve coffee and breakfast/lunch/dinner items.

The cheesecakes come in various hues and range in flavours from red velvet to chocolate, berry and mango. They also had a parmesan flavour and a blue cheese cheesecake as well. Maybe that’s why they’re called The Smelly Cheesecake?  Continue reading →

Passion 8 Dessert Cafe

As a huge fan of Taiwanese thick toast and carbs in general, I was drawn to the toasts from Passion 8 Dessert Cafe.  Here they call them “toastery”. They are also known for their shaved ice. Passion 8 is located on Cambie and 14th near Tropika.

I really didn’t feel like having shaved ice though since it was -5 outside but they come in two different sizes and you can also do take out as well. Actually in general I’m not crazy for shaved ice if there are other options around. I haven’t even been to Snowy Village yet!  Continue reading →

Candy Tree Dessert-Shaved Ice, Durian Waffles and More!

Disclaimer: All food was complimentary but opinions are my own

I was invited to another Chinese Bites event and this time we hit up Candy Tree Dessert. They are located on Kingsway near Patterson and close to the Patterson skytrain station. I knew they would offer similar desserts to Icy Bar so I was ready to embrace everything! My dessert stomach is always ready.

We were separated into 3 different tables and each table ordered their own items but I still took pictures of stuff from other tables. This place is pretty small so it’s probably best for small groups since the waits are going to be really long.

On the left we have the Durian Milkshake and on the right we have the Ferrero Rocher Milkshake. Heard good things about both! Continue reading →

Spaghetei Revisit-Second Time’s the Charm

Disclaimer: All food was complimentary but opinions are my own

Spaghetei invited me back again this summer to try their menu again. No the menu has not changed but I only tried two of the pasta dishes last time so it was a great opportunity to try a few more.

Shaved ice from 17°C Dessert Café took over Instagram recently after they opened over the May long weekend. If you’ve been reading my blog long enough, you’ll know that I hate line ups so obviously I wasn’t the first one there but thankfully I was invited by ChineseBites for a private tasting. Yay!

That Time I Ate the Whole Food Court-Taste of Aberdeen

Disclaimer: All food was complimentary but opinions are my own

I was invited to another Chinese Bites event last month and this time it was at the Aberdeen food court with 60 other foodies. I’m quite familiar with the food court (or so I thought) and I’ve spent a lot of time here when I was younger. Now I had the chance to try EVERY food stall! It was a dream come true yet I feared for my growing waistline. #foodbloggerproblems

So without further ado… let the gluttony begin!

Spaghetei-Japanese Style Spaghetti

Disclaimer: All food was complimentary but opinions are my own

I was invited to try Spaghetei and they specialize in Japanese Style spaghetti (keep reading for a special coupon!!!). This is actually their second location and the first location outside of Japan.

They have a Happy Hour special which is between 11:45am-3pm aka lunch time! All pastas are $9.80 instead of the usual $12-13 so lunch time is a good time to try them out if you’re in the area or working nearby.

Icy Bar-Dessert Buffet

Disclaimer: All food was complimentary but opinions are my own

I was invited by ChineseBites to try some of the desserts at Icy Bar. They have a few locations now: Parker Place, Crystal Mall, Kingsway and Boundary,  Kingsway and Knight and the Richmond Night Market. I first went to Icy Bar back in March and I really liked it so I was excited to come back!

Icy Bar Isn’t this beautiful? Don’t you want this on a hot summer day? I suggest you drive over there right now! You can order an Eight Mix Icy for $10 or a Four Mix Icy for $6.75. They have an impressive number of toppings to choose from. The mango was fresh and sweet and of course there was my favourite topping: mochi! Icy Bar offers green tea mochi, mango mochi, taro mochi and regular mochi! Continue reading →

Icy Bar-So Cool!

Hello! Ok excuse my lame pun in the title… I met up with some of my former co-workers for dinner at Sushi Bella and then we went to Icy Bar for dessert! Icy Bar is a shaved ice and dessert cafe similar to Mango Yummy in Richmond but Icy Bar has been around for a lot longer. They also have locations in Richmond but the one we went to was on Kingsway.

You can get 8 toppings on your shaved ice for $8 or 4 toppings for $6.50. We decided to get two of the 4 topping shaved ice. If you order the 8 topping option, they’ll give you more ice in proportion to all the toppings. Or that’s what it looked like when I saw other tables ordering it.

Icy BarThis had mango, glutinous black rice, red bean and taro mochi.

Icy BarThis one had pearls, lychee, strawberry and green tea mochi.

The best part about Icy Bar is that they give you your own squeeze tube/bottle of condensed milk!!! WE USED A LOT. We practically drank it but it was awesome! =D Usually they charge you more for condensed milk.

Icy Bar

We also ordered a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side for $2. It melted super fast… wasn’t the best ice cream and I’m not sure why I got it on the side and not on top… but they offered to give it to me on the side so I was like ok. I don’t think I would need ice cream next time anyway so I can save $2!

By the way, the ice is not flavoured but the texture was good. The toppings were all delicious and came with a generous amount. Nothing to complain about! I bet all the condensed milk we dumped on it helped!

It’s also a nice place to hang out with friends here! The store is not super tiny like Mango Yummy so it’d be a lot easier to get a table. They also serve drinks, tofu pudding and hot soup desserts.

Mango Yummy-New Shaved Ice Destination

After eating dinner at Shanghai House, my friends and I still had room for dessert so we walked to the relatively new Mango Yummy across from Richmond Centre. Once we opened the doors, we were hit with the smell of durian and although I’ve actually never tried durian, I don’t find the smell atrocious but just an FYI they do serve durian pancake/crepes here!

The store is tiny as usual and since we had a group of seven, we ended up waiting for 35 mins for a table. At the same time, we couldn’t come up with a better dessert plan so we ended up waiting. We finally managed to get a table meant for three and squished seven people around it.

They have an impressive array of drinks, smoothies, tofu desserts, shaved ice, sweet soup, toast and some waffles, cakes and crepes. I remember visiting their stall at the night market for at least two years.

Mango Yummy

This was the Mango and Mochi with Vanilla Ice Cream Shaved Ice. This was served on a plastic dish and there was an impressive amount of toppings. The mango was pretty sweet and the mochi had a very satisfying chew to it. The shaved ice is not flavoured though like at Frappe Bliss. It’s just ice but shaved very finely and I really liked the texture here.
